Black Rooms

It's been a month since my last post and it seems like ages ago.  In the last 4 weeks we had a spectacular wedding in the outer banks of North Carolina (thankfully the weekend before Sandy), a Super Storm and a Snow Storm!  Luckily we did not have any major damage from the storm but we did lose power for nine days!  I did feel guilty while many of my neighbors weathered the power outage in their cold and pitch black homes for nine nights while we stayed dry and warm, thanks to good friends with a generator who shared their home with us.

There is no great segway to this post....but I thought it would be fitting to feature some black painted rooms.  It's a very daring paint color, but I think it's worth it if you are looking for some high drama in your room.

It's been 15 days since the storm and there are still thousands of people without power or worse yet, without homes.   My thoughts and prayers are with all those who continue to suffer from Sandy's destruction.

2013 Color of the Year

Benjamin Moore announced the 2013 Color of the Year and it's Lemon Sorbet!  Nothing brightens up your day more than a cheerful yellow room!  Below the color is featured with shades of gray, still a trendy and popular color combination.  I love yellow walls.......it reminds me of sunshine, and who doesn't love sunshine!

Speaking of sunshine, we are 10 days away from the wedding and I'm praying we have a gorgeous day!  The average temperature in the Outer Banks in October is 76 degrees, so we are hoping for a day filled with lots of sunshine.  Keep your fingers crossed!!  Meanwhile, here are a few rooms where the sun is shinning indoors.

Blue & Green

Oh my goodness, it's October 4th!! And we are coming down to the home stretch...........the wedding is just 16 days away and we are all so excited to head to the outerbanks and celebrate with Alex & Kevin!  Alex has chosen a blue and green color scheme for the wedding, perfect for a coastal wedding.  Here were some of her inspiration photos.

I love the combination of blue and green for interior spaces as well.  There is something very crisp and clean about this combination of colors.  Check out the rooms below, wouldn't you agree?

Shoes to Match!

With my step daughter's wedding fast approaching, I've been on a search for shoes for the wedding.  I'm good with color, so how hard could it be to find a pair of shoes to match my dress? Turns out it was hard!!!   The dress manufacturer calls the dress "silver"  but it's really a warm silver/champagne/taupey color.  If it was a paint color it would be close to a shimmery version of Sherwin Williams "Loggia".

Come to think of it, I recommend this tone all the time.  It makes a great neutral backdrop for interiors.  The color is not too gray and not too beige, it's the perfect warm gray tone!  Check out the rooms below that feature this shade.........they are quite calming, don't you think?

Here's a peek of the dress (it's not that short on me!)

oh my goodness.......30 days until the big day!!

Porches

The weather has been superb lately!  Crisp mornings giving way to warm afternoons are my favorite.  With the humidity gone, it's a good time to enjoy my screened porch!  Many years ago my father was kind enough to come for a weekend and work his magic...transforming my plain porch floor into a checkerboard.  It turned out so nice, but I can't find the photos I took to show off his handy work!  So while I search through my iphoto files,  here are a few photos of porches that I think are worth sharing.

Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray

I was in the nail salon and came across a recent issue of House Beautiful, and thought......... what happened to my subscription??   Somehow I missed this one, and this is one issue I would hate to miss!!  September's issue is all about COLOR!!   Not only did I love all the information on color and color trends, I fell in love with this gorgeous room designed by Ashley Whittaker.   The walls are painted in a soothing shade of gray, creating a spectacular backdrop to the cool tones of blue and green.  It's been a while since I've used or recommended Benjamin Moore's Coventry Gray, but after seeing how striking it is, I will have to remember to do so!!

The Whalehead Club - Corolla, NC

It's mid-July already and the summer is slipping by fast.  Haven't had much time to post lately as we are in the midst of wedding planning!!  In looking for great color inspiration for the blog, I came across this picture of the wedding venue and thought......you can't beat the soothing colors of green and blue!! Ironically they are the colors of my step-daughter's wedding too!!  The big day is planned for October @ The Whalehead Club located in Corolla, NC.  I am so excited for her and her fiance!!!! But I've got to keep reminding myself........................... 3 months and 10 lbs to go!
