Eco-Friendly Home

The July issue of At Home Arkansas features this beautiful home design by Melissa Haynes. Hired by a young family in Northwest Arkansas whose goal was to create an eco-friendy home with an overall tranquil and calming tone, Melissa set out to do just that.  I love her selection of colors and textures throughout the home.  From the soothing color palette to the variety of textures (limestone, grasscloth, sisal, linen and tile) this home is chock full of eco-friendy materials!  For more information on this lovely home and to read the full article, be sure to click on the link below.

Guest House

The holidays are right around the corner and I am hoping to have a house full of family. There is nothing better than a large family get-together for the holidays.  But then I think.......hosting a large family get-together would be even better if I had a gorgeous guest house!!  My thoughts take me back to the guest house below, featured not too long ago on South Shore Decorating Blog via House of Turquoise.  This gorgeous guest house was designed by Tillman Long Interiors and features a relaxing and functional floor plan.  Simple and elegant furnishings in a calming color palette sets the stage for a tranquil visit for sure. The space boosts many architectural details; I love the sliding barn doors that separate the sleeping and living space.  Heck, if I had this guest house I'd opt to move out of my home and check in here when I had guests!

Benjamin Moore 2014 Color Trends

Where has the time gone!  I haven't posted a thing since August, somehow I missed the entire month of September!!  I can't believe there are only 3 months left in the year and 2014 is right around the corner........OMGoodness......who can think about 2014!  Well it turns out Benjamin Moore has given it some thought and has recently released its 2014 Color Trends. The color palette, dubbed "the 'new' neutrals" consists of 23 soothing colors.  So what's the latest color trend?  According to Ellen O'Neill, Creative Director of Benjamin Moore & Co.

"We've begun to see a shift away from gray to tints of blues, greens, lavenders and pinks."

My immediate reaction after reading this was..."what, no gray!?!  But looking at the color palette I notice many colors I often use. These softer shades of color have a gray or brown base that makes them quiet, something I refer to as "quite color". Quiet colors are easy to live with, even the highly saturated colors are calming.
